Vitamin D is crucial for the healthy growth and development of children's bones and teeth.

Vitamin D insufficiency in childhood has been linked to conditions such as multiple sclerosis and osteoporosis in adulthood.

There is some evidence that vitamin D deficiency may be related to conditions which affect long term health, such as type 1 diabetes and some cancers.

This infographic highlights the key issues of vitamin D deficiency in the UK. It follows a recent story on our SAPHNA site revealing that the numbers of children lacking in vitamin D have increased fourfold in the last few years, with more than 760 children were admitted to hospital with the condition in 2013.
