NICE should update antidepressant withdrawal advice, say RCPsych

The Royal College of Psychiatrists has called on NICE to update its antidepressant withdrawal advice to reflect the wide range of experience patients have with antidepressant withdrawal after it listened to the experience of patients and other clinicians including GPs.

The Royal College of Psychiatrists has called on NICE to update its antidepressant withdrawal advice to reflect the wide range of experience patients have with antidepressant withdrawal after it listened to the experience of patients and other clinicians including GPs. In a position statement, the Royal College of Psychiatrists makes a series of recommendations, including that NICE, should update its withdrawal guidelines €“ last issued in 2009 and currently being updated €“ to make them €œclear, evidence-based and pharmacologically informed to help guide gradual withdrawal from antidepressant use€. Existing advice from NICE suggests most people should be able to come off antidepressants
